Channel manager, PMS and booking engine: how they fit together
Three systems every hotel hears about. What each one does, how they share data, and how to avoid overbookings.
Hotel technology can feel like alphabet soup. Three systems matter most for selling rooms.
PMS — property management system
Runs the hotel: rooms, guests, check-in, folios and housekeeping. It is usually the source of truth for inventory.
Channel manager
Keeps rates and availability in sync across OTAs and GDS. When a room is booked on one channel, it is removed from the others. See channel manager.
Booking engine
Sells rooms on your own website and passes bookings to the PMS and channel manager. See booking engine.
How they work together
All three must read the same availability. When a PMS is connected, fields it owns should be locked elsewhere so nothing is overwritten — see PMS connections.
In the Hotaler ecosystem, the booking engine, marketplace, AI phone agent and channel manager share one inventory.
