Saudi Arabia's hotel market is growing fast across Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah and new destinations such as AlUla and the Red Sea coast. Pilgrims, business travellers, domestic families and new international tourists all book differently.
Religious travel to Makkah and Madinah follows the Islamic calendar, with Ramadan and Hajj the biggest peaks; Riyadh and Jeddah are driven by business, events and entertainment seasons. Families often book several rooms together, so multi-room booking and clear per-room pricing help.
A market growing fast
Saudi Arabia reported about 122 million visits in 2025, up 5% on the year, with tourism spending close to SAR 300 billion. The Vision 2030 target is 150 million visits a year — 80 million domestic and 70 million international.
Much of that growth comes from new supply — Riyadh, the Red Sea coast, AlUla — which means more hotels competing for the same guests on the same OTAs. The direct channel is where a hotel can stand out.
VAT and fees
VAT in Saudi Arabia is 15%, and a municipality fee also applies to hotel rooms. Guests compare totals, so show both in the first price rather than at the last step.
How Saudi guests book
Saudi families often book several rooms together, and pilgrims book around dates set by the Islamic calendar. Many guests prefer Arabic, use mada debit cards or Apple Pay, and like splitting the cost with buy-now-pay-later.
